JVP dissident MP Wimal Werawansa and MP Nandana Gunathilake visited the Election Secretariat at Rajagiriya today in the morning and handed over the required documents to register their new political party -National Freedom Front (Jathika Nidahas Peramuna).
MP Weerawansa is the Chairman of the party and MP Nandana Gunathilaka who left JVP few years back is the Secretary of the party. It is also learnt that Kamal Deshapriya Mannapperuma who left the party in 1994 is the National Organizer. Deepal Gunasekara has been appointed as the Treasurer, according to political sources.
After handing over the documents, MP Weearwansa said that their new political party will be officially launched at the convention that will be held at BMICH on 14th May 2008. “All patriotic people who are willing to serve for our motherland are welcome to our party” MP Weerawansa said.
Former JVP Propaganda Secretary and JVP parliamentary group leader MP Wimal Weerawansa after making an emotional speech in the Parliament on 8th April 2008, left the party together with 10 other JVP MPs. It is also reported that JVP founder leader, late Rohana Wijeweera has formed JVP on 14th May 1965 and that is one of the reasons as to why they have decided to launch their new party on 14th May.
