We the Friends of Sri Lanka, Canada congratulate and thank Hon. MP Mr. Joe Daniell, Hon MP Mr. Chunsen Leung and Ms. Marlene Gallyot for reflecting the ground reality of Sri Lanka following their recent tour. The press release based on their recent tour in Sri Lanka is an eye opener for many Canadian politicians and political parties.
The parliamentarians witnessed the ground reality essential to be considered when shaping Canada’s foreign policy on Sri Lanka. They have witnessed rapid progress: demining, resettlement of 280,000 IDPs, rehabilitation 11,000 LTTE cadres and the launch of a multifaceted reconciliation program in recorded time. In contrast, the terrorist propaganda through front organizations in Canada propagated disinformation that former LTTE caders were killed. The parliamentarians witnessed the release of the LLRC report that addressed many of the challenges facing a country recovering from a brutal terrorist conflict.They have witnessed the rapid growth of economy and the massive infrastructure boom happening in the country which the terrorist lobby silent of commenting.In shaping Canada’s current foreign on Sri Lanka, it is essential for Ottawa not to be driven by terrorist propaganda but by the ground reality.
Canada’s flawed foreign policy on Sri Lanka is a inheritance from the former Liberal Government; which was developed on the information supplied by the Tamil Tiger lobbyists and the NGOs funded by their front organizations in Canada. For instance, the Canadian Tamil Congress funded Amnesty International Canada that lobbied the Canadian MPs. In order to gain votes at the elections, a few Canadians parliamentarians attended terrorist fund raisers and made statements that advanced the interests of the terrorists.
The end result was making Canada a terrorist support base. Unwittingly, Canada was one of the main money contributors for the Tamil Tiger terrorist war chest. The LTTE waged a proxy war in Sri Lanka throughout last 30 years by killing tens of thousands of security forces personnel and civilians.
We believe now is the time to wash off the blood in the hand of Canadians who contributed to the LTTE by correcting those mistakes. Otherwise, the LTTE fronts operating in Canada will continue to radicalize and militarize a new generation of Tamils. We urge Canadian government to make things right now; otherwise Canada will be the main contributor for disrupting the hard earned peace in Sri Lanka. We urge all Friends of Sri Lanka living throughout this nation join hand with the Hon. MPs for their honest statement. We congratulate and thank them.
