This alone shows the hidden agendas of such politicians. Having said that, we have to also admit that DD is a better Tamil politician than Thondaman who is a thug in his own style of handling local issues & never to be trusted.

At this juncture, if there are politicians who lay down conditions for supporting MR, he should think twice whether or not he needs their support?

If MR is foolish enough to give in to demands of minority parties, then he is never going to be able to establish a strong government or reduce the number of cabinet ministers of his next government because if we add up all those who are making demands, we may very well end up with more cabinet ministers than we already have!

While DD has been hiding amidst the Sinhala population during the period of mayhem at the hands of LTTE terrorism and still alive today, there are a vast majority of Tamil people up in the North who are surely relieved of the freedom they now have after the LTTE has been defeated by the MR leadership and government. For 30 years these innocent Tamils have been living in constant fear while well to do Tamil politicians while criticising Sinhala Chauvanists have been living without fear amidst the Sinhalese in the south-does this not smell of hypocrisy?

Sri Lankan politicians unfortunately are not that sincere in their across the board statements because there is too much in politics for their personal benefits!

On the other hand for people like Wickramabahu Karunaratne to state that all opposition should rally round the JVP goes without saying that they are the other side of the UNP coin who do not hold anything of value to the cultural & religious heritage of this country. All communities and religions come on par where the majority of the population will be over run by vesterd interests who only wish to tear down this Sri Lankan nation immediately after the heroic victory of our combined forces over the terrorist LTTE.

There is no doubt that the EU and the International Democratic Union(IDU) of which Ranil Wickramasinghe is the President of the Asian Pacific Region are going all out to spend what it needs, to oust this government led by President Rajapakse!

It was stated in the local papers 2 days ago that Ranil Wickramasinghe is scheduled to leave for Europe soon, to brief western leaders about the election campaign-typical of his servile mentality of always prostrating in front of foreigners and getting advise on how to run “OUR COUNTRY!”

Buddhists in those countries approached their relevant High Commissions or Embassies and requested the authorities to lodge protests with the governments of the host countries. Why don’t the expatriate Buddhists of all countries living in Australia lodge complaints to their own High Commissions & Embassies to take up the matter with the Australian Government?

May be that Malin Abayatunga is not aware that in the early part of the millenium, the United Nations declared Wesak as an international holiday.However, none of the western countries who are all Christian, ever deem it prudent to declare Wesak as a religious holiday on the Full Moon Day of May as a religious holiday in their countries! Instead it is another insignificant week day that is given as a holiday. So much for religious sensitivity of these western civilized countries!

Whether they like it or not, the statues of Jesus Christ or Virgin Mary, does not and never will portray the serenity associated with the statue of Lord Buddha! Therefore, they use the Lord Buddha as a symbol of peace and tranquility to lure in people even to the very places that sell products against which the Lord Buddha requested right thinking people to refrain from frequenting-Bars of all places!

In countries like Thailand, Indonesia,Hong Kong,Taiwan,Japan where Mahayana Buddhism is predominant, they consider the symbol of The Buddha as bringing luck to their business establishment and therefore, most often it is with reverence that stutues of The Buddha are placed in their work places. However, there are exceptions to these placements as well. Sometime ago, in Thailand it had been highlighted that Buddha Statues had been placed even in bathrooms which were frequented by tourists!

Rationality sometimes, is overlooked for business purposes which is very unfortunate when it takes place especially in countries which are doling out so called ” religious tolerance” etc to poorer countries like ours where it might be better for them to lead through example rather than theoretical dogmas which hold no ground.

Buddhists living in these countries must object through their own Missions to the relevant local government authorities to give due place to The Lord Buddha!
